THIS IS A REALLY COOL
MIDDLE SCHOOL
At Roosevelt, students don’t just take tests—they direct short films, build robots, jam in jazz band, run track, debate global issues, advocate for peace and human rights, dominate the field in flag football, perform in Broadway musicals, and make media that matters.
RooFriends helps make that possible.
Our Curriculum
-
International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP)
MYP is a global, student-centered curriculum for students aged 11–16.
Focusing on inquiry-based learning, global contexts, real-world connections, interdisciplinary thinking, reflection, and growth, MYP develops students’ critical-thinking, creativity, and international-mindedness through eight subject groups and a focus on Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. -
Media Arts Magnet Program
Media Arts combine technology and creativity to tell stories, express ideas, and explore the world through digital tools like video, audio, music, screenwriting, radio, animation, graphic design and more!
As one of only three Media Arts Magnet schools in the San Diego Unified School District, Media Arts are embedded into classroom instruction and assessment practices, allowing all students to develop these skills. -
Spanish Language Immersion
Our Spanish Language Immersion (SLIM) program is designed to serve Dual Language Pathway students looking to continue their Spanish Immersion experience.
Students in SLIM take a Spanish-immersion History course each year, as well as advanced Spanish courses.
All students take a World Language (French or Spanish) as part of Roosevelt’s IB curriculum.
At Roosevelt, the learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings. Our FREE Extended Day programs—which include 7th period Band & Orchestra, After School Enrichment (ASE), and Middle School Athletics—offer students a chance to explore new passions, deepen their skills, and connect with community, all while supporting our IB and Media Arts magnet goals.
Whether your student wants to join a band, play a sport, build a robot, perform on stage, grow a garden, or start a film career, there’s a place for them here.

Events That Make Middle School Memorable
Roosevelt isn’t just a school—it’s a whole experience. Throughout the year, we host a variety of IB-aligned and community-powered events that bring students, families, and neighbors together. These aren’t your average school functions—they’re joyful, meaningful, and just plain cool.
